The Local Sustainability Project is an international collaborative action research project which is based at the Fenner School of Environment and Society at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australia.

Since its creation in 1991, the Local Sustainability Project has presented more than 300 demonstration collective learning workshops in Australia, Europe, China, Malaysia, and Fiji. Collective learning projects have also been set up in Bali, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Vanuatu and the United Kingdom.

Community-led transformational changes have included:

  • environmental health in villages in Fiji
  • collaborative place management by local govenments in isolated settlements in precincts of a global city.
